How to Clean Your Room (My Cleaning Routine, Tips + FREE PRINTABLE)

Hello there all you wonderful people! Today I'm going to be talking about something that not many of us enjoy, cleaning our room. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "Who does this this girl think she is, my mom? You can't tell me how to clean my room" and to that I say you're absolutely right! If you want to just shove all your clothes in your wardrobe and pray they don't all fall out on top of you next time you open it by all means leave. If you want the process to be a little more efficient, stay tuned.

By the way as I'm writing this I'm literally cleaning my room so this is my full process in case anyone was wondering :)'

Step 1: Create a To Do List (or print one)

I find to do lists one of the most motivational things on this planet. Nothing feels better than crossing/ticking/scribbling/whatever floats your boat off your to do list, so before I tidy I always look at what needs to be done and come up with a list of what needs to be done. I love this step so much I've even included a free printable room tidying to do list at the bottom of this post (you can thank me later (: ) .

*PRO TIP: Make sure you're wearing comfortable clothes for tidying! Otherwise you'll be super distracted throughout the process. Also if you have hair that will get in the way tie it up!

Step 2: Find Some Tunes

I'm writing this post quite a bit ahead of time so I'm not sure what people are listening to these days (since it doesn't exist yet!) but Mama Mia here We Go Again has pretty recently released at the time of writing this so right now I'm dancing around my room and singing like an idiot to 'Why Did It Have To Be Me'. So find yourself a playlist that's upbeat and motivates you.

*PRO TIP: Spotify have some great throwback playlists that are great for tidying to!*

Step 3: Make Your Bed

This is always the first actual cleaning thing I do because it's pretty easy to do and just motivates me to make the rest of my room look as tidy as my bed does.

Step 4: Bin Your Rubbish!

I used to just try and tidy everything with no sort of order to it at all but now I've realised it's much more efficient to split up everything into some sort of routine! I like to get rid of all of my rubbish, wrappers, etc first because it makes my bedroom look a lot cleaner already!

*PRO TIP: After putting your rubbish in the bin, emptying it makes your room look super tidy!*

Step 5: Put Away All Your Clothes

This one usually takes the longest for me but it still doesn't feel like too much since I've broken all the tasks up! Basically find every piece of clothing that isn't where it belongs and put it away or in the laundry basket if it's dirty.

*PRO TIP: Don't just shove your clothes into your drawer, put them away neatly so everything's more organised*

Step 6: Clear Your Floor

After binning your rubbish and putting away your clothes there shouldn't be too much left on the floor but if there is random clutter lying around get rid of it all until your floor is fully cleared.

Step 7: Organise Surfaces

And by surfaces I mean desks, bedside tables, shelves and everything similar! I know I definitely tend to just throw things down on the first surface I see so these things can get very cluttered but just go through each one individually and get rid of everything that shouldn't be there!

Step 8: Vacuum the Floor

Ugh, now that your floors clear you can see all the dust that's built up! Time to get out the vacuum and get rid of that!

*PRO TIP: Don't forget to vacuum under your bed and bedside locker because a lot of dust can gather here.*

Step 9: Dust Surfaces

Now that the dust on your floor's gone you need to get rid of any built up on your surfaces (window sill, desk, locker, etc.) Using a feather duster or a cloth wipe down all the dusty areas in your room.

*PRO TIP: If you have a ceiling fan in your room a lot of dust can gather on the top, don't forget to wipe it down!*

Step 10: Enjoy Your Tidy Room!

Phew, you've finally finished, congratulations! Take a break and relax in your tidy room (you've worked hard to get it clean, you deserve it).

  7. Buying a decent machine for cover cleaning may be somewhat exorbitant, however leasing is a less expensive option. There are various spots where you can contract cover cleaning machines. carpet cleaning Brooklyn NY
