Meet the Blogger: Melanie

Hi guys, I hope you're doing well! Today I'd like to introduce you to Melanie from lifewithmelly.co.uk! I hope you enjoy getting to know her.

1. Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone, my name is Mel, I am 27 years old and a parenting, lifestyle and mental health blogger. I live in Pontypridd in Wales, which is in the UK. I am a mum to a two-year-old little girl named Alice and I have two pets Olly Purs my cat and Jessie my rescued lurcher.

2. Describe your blog and why you started it.

My blog first started out as just documenting my journey of pregnancy and it became a little bit difficult to balance while I worked so sadly there aren't many before posts but soon as Alice arrived, I tried to blog at least twice a month. After Alice's father and I broke up in October 2016, I began to post more about depression, living with postnatal depression and eventually my mental health posts got more traffic than my normal posts. Slowly I merged my blog into not only parenting but more lifestyle and mental health. It's been a really fun journey so far! I have been blogging for almost three years now this December, I have been to a couple of blogging events and I have met a few bloggers in my area but I hope the next six months and into 2019 the journey will become even more epic.

3. What's been your favourite blog post to write and why?

Oh lord, my favourite blog post! I can't pick just one, so if you don't mind I've picked my top three.

http://lifewithmelly.co.uk/2018/05/14/27th-birthday/
This one was really fun to write and to shoot the photographs. It's been almost two years since I liked how I look and to have photographs taken like the ones pictured in the post is fantastic! Plus who doesn't enjoy about me posts, I love reading about bloggers and watching YouTuber's do about me videos, they're the best!

http://lifewithmelly.co.uk/2017/11/16/counselling-really-work/
I have dealt with counseling before during my college years (nearly 10 years ago) and to go back to counseling after being told I had PND and anxiety, it was interesting how much I not only enjoyed it but felt the weight lift off once I got everything off my chest. Writing this post I believe helped some people who weren't sure about getting the help they needed and I'm extremely happy even if I helped one person.

This! This post was so important for me to write, I had been craving my own home with Alice since I had to move back in with my parents, so the first few weeks especially around Christmas time I just had to document some of it. I have been living in my home now nine months now and the excitement feeling still hasn't changed and I still love every minute of it.

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
Canada. I've been twice when I was a child and I'd love to go back as an adult now to really appreciate the place more. I have family there as well, so it would be amazing for Alice to meet them. The whole place is like something from a fantasy novel and I would like to visit every square inch of it.

5. What's been the most challenging moment of your blogging journey so far?

Wondering if I should carry on with it, during the beginning I didn't post very much and then in 2017 I really sunk my teeth into it and for the first few months I just kept on reminding myself to build traffic and someone will eventually find the blog and find it useful. I was very misguided as most newbie bloggers are and would post and then refresh my emails a million times hoping for a comment, a like or an email from a brand. That's not the healthy way to go. So now I write for myself and hope others find what I write useful. The challenge was, moving past becoming a 'famous blogger' like so many before me and just enjoying what I am doing.

6. What is your favourite thing about being a blogger?

Connecting with like-minded people. I'm very sociable but am stuck in the house most days so being able to connect to other parent bloggers via social media such as Twitter has been a godsend! And everyone is so friendly and supportive, it's wonderful.

7. What's your favourite book, movie and tv show?

Favourite books – Jojo Moyes, Me Before You.
Sarah J Mass – A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Favourite Movie – Disney! The Notebook & Harry Potter.
Favourite TV Show – Game of Thrones (of course) & Greys Anatomy.

8. What is your number one piece of advice for new bloggers?

Don't compare! Don't be too hard on yourself! Growth doesn't happen overnight! And enjoy what you are doing for YOU.

9.Who are your favourite bloggers?

Helen Anderson & Hannah Witton,
They just post such real life stories and advice, I enjoy reading their stuff.

10. Where do you think your blog will take you in the future?

Anywhere is possible. I'm just going to enjoy the ride :)

  1. I enjoyed this post and Melanie seems so confident about her blogging journey. Reminds me to just sit back and enjoy this beautiful ride in the blogging world. I too want to visit Canada one day, the live sculpture botanical gardens is one to see!
