Tall Girl Problems!

Hey guys! So right now I'm 15 and as far as I know I'm about 5 foot 10 inches tall. Having always been tall for my age I was always told how lucky I am, even when I was a kid and I know there are advantages to being tall . But there are also some annoying downfalls which tend to be overlooked. So today I'm going to be sharing some struggles of being tall.

1. Height Comments

"Wow you're so tall","You should be a model", "How tall are you?", "How's the weather up there". If you're tall I can guarantee you've heard most of these phrases, probably multiple times. For some reason people think we don't know that we're tall and feel the need to point it out. However there seems to be a double standard as this tends not to be such a common occurence for shorter people (at least in my experience let me know in the comments if I'm wrong).

2. Overestimated Athletic Ability

This particular point is particularly true for basketball and volleyball (both of which I am definitely NOT talented at). On my first day of secondary school nervous, 13 year old me was approached by the PE teacher who encouraged me join the basketball team. I repeat on THE FIRST DAY unfortunately in my case she didn't get the prodigy she was hoping for and I think I attended maybe one basketball training session before admitting to myself that my height didn't make up for my lack of skill.

3. Plane Seats

Why is it that every time I fly with an airline that has reclining seats I get put at the very back of the plane where the seats in front of me can lean back but I can't do he same to avoid them??? Trust me plane seats are bad enough without taking away even more precious leg space. Sitting comfortably for the duration of a flight seems unfathomable to me.

4. All The Boys Being Shorter Than Us

I know this isn't an issue for some girls who don't care about height in a relationship and of course it can be overlooked but in my experience the majority of girls I know like to date guys who are taller than them and vice versa. This is definitely becoming less of an issue
as a lot of guys my age tend to have had/ be having their growth spurts but especially when I was younger I used to tower over all the boys my age and with the media enforcing the idea that the girl should be smaller I went through phases of hating being tall because it made me stick out and was different to what I'd been seeing on TV. Now I've embraced my height I'm so much more confident in myself.

5. Being Used As A Hiding Place

So, I'm not sure if this is just me or if this happens to other people as well but if one of my friends is avoiding someone and I'm nearby they crouch down behind me to avoid detection. And it's not just being used as a hiding place I've also been used as a source of shade for my friends on sunny days. To be honest I find this one more funny than annoying but it's just something I've noticed so I thought I'd include it anyway.

6. Walking Too Fast

Am I really walking too fast or are you just walking too slow? This is something I hear a lot and I'm not sure if its too much to do with my height or if I'm just a fast walker but for the sake of this post let's say it's due to tallness (because otherwise it wouldn't work with this post ahah)

7. Jeans

This is my biggest problem with being tall. Buying jeans tends to end up with one pair that's too short but fits at the waist or a pair that fits lengthwise but is huge around my waist. Thankfully belts are a thing so there is a solution for this but I can't imagine having jeans that fit right at my ankle and waist.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope at least a few of these were relatable. Be sure to follow me on social media (links below!) .I would really appreciate any support by sharing, following or telling your friends. Bye!

  2. Aw no bless you, it must get annoying most days! I'm only 5ft 4 but jeans annoy me so much too to be honest, ive put on a bit of weight, no much, just grown a podge haha, but i buy a 10uk and they are nipping and a 12uk omg they seem huge! I am probably unlucky with the whole shopping malarky as it depends where you go to what size you actually are! Primark for instance is a whole new level of sizing! Thanks for sharing.

  3. This was so interesting to read because I'm only 5'5" so I've never had any of these problems! I love reading about other people's experiences.

  4. So, I'm 5'9 and I get a lot of height comments and boys are always shorter than me. Also, I was told that I would be really good at basketball, but clearly they haven't seen me be athletic. Being a bit older than you, I think you just get used to it and embrace it. After all, once we're both old ladies, we'll probably lose a couple inches from our heights.

    1. Yeah, I think I'm definitely starting to embrace my height as a part of who I am now more than I used to. But am still looking forward to those old lady days without the athletic assumpions 😂

  5. I genuinly relate to all of these! I'm 5'11''/6' and the struggle is real. I'm also not the skinniest person, which sometimes makes it even more difficult being tall and attractive to boys. What I also have noticed is that boys like their girlfriends to be smaller, not necessarily girls like their boyfriends to be taller, which is why I think it is one of the main reasons I've never had a boyfriend (I'm 20). Well, not mucht to do about it, huh? Really enjoyed reading this!

  6. I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, I'm only 5'2 and nearly 22 so children are taller than me! You'd think it means I'm always shorter than boys but a lot I know started smoking young so we're the same height. I don't smoke, I just got short genes despite my brother and sister being taller even though we're triplets.
